Zeekr 7X Fire Captured on Video: Owner Escapes Just in Time

A video circulating on social media shows a black Zeekr 7X electric SUV bursting into flames, raising concerns about EV battery safety and thermal runaway. The owner, standing close to the vehicle, managed to walk away moments before violent flames erupted from underneath and from the open hood.

The incident occurred at a charging station in Huzhou, Zhejiang, China, on August 9, according to an Instagram post by AsiaOne. Footage shows the owner inspecting the car with the hood lifted, then checking underneath before stepping away. Seconds later, sparks flew and flames engulfed the area, with thick smoke covering the scene.

Firefighters arrived quickly and extinguished the blaze.

EV fires can be more violent than those in gasoline cars due to thermal runaway, where a short-circuited cell overheats uncontrollably and triggers a chain reaction in nearby cells. In this case, the owner could have suffered serious burns had he not moved away.

Zeekr responded on Chinese social media, stating that the 7X had been involved in a serious collision and had not been inspected or repaired by an authorized service center since. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Zeekr officials emphasized that the power battery, high-voltage system, and vehicle body structure require inspection after a collision, as such vehicles can have safety hazards.

They advised used-car buyers to verify service history and check the battery and high-voltage system.

The Zeekr 7X is sold in Europe, Central Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and other regions. It earned a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating in 2025, with 90% for child protection and 91% for adult protection.
