Xpeng Recalls Thousands of X9 SUVs After Air Suspension Problems in Hot Weather

Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng has initiated a large-scale recall of its X9 model after reports surfaced of air suspension failures during extreme heat. The recall affects a significant number of units, as the company moves to address a safety issue that could compromise vehicle stability in high-temperature conditions.

According to the company, the problem stems from a software calibration error that causes the air suspension system to malfunction when outside temperatures soar. Drivers in warmer regions reported instances of the suspension suddenly dropping or becoming unresponsive, raising concerns about handling and ride comfort.

Xpeng has not disclosed the exact number of vehicles involved but confirmed the recall covers X9 models produced over a specific period.

The automaker is notifying affected owners and will update the suspension control software free of charge at authorized service centers. Xpeng emphasized that no accidents or injuries have been linked to the defect, but the proactive recall aims to prevent any potential risks. This move comes as Xpeng continues to expand its global footprint, with the X9 being one of its flagship models in the competitive EV market.

For drivers in hotter climates, the fix is expected to be a relatively quick process. Xpeng advises owners to check their vehicle identification numbers on the company’s website or contact local dealerships to confirm if their X9 is included in the recall. The company says it remains committed to quality and safety as it scales production.
