Wrong Labels Force Subaru to Recall More Than Half a Million Cars

Wrong Labels Force Subaru to Recall More Than Half a Million Cars

Subaru is calling back over 541,000 vehicles across the United States, and the reason is a paperwork problem. The automaker says the labels on the cars don’t match what’s actually inside, specifically regarding tire pressure and weight limits. The issue affects multiple popular models from recent years, including the Outback, Legacy, and Ascent.

According to documents filed with federal safety regulators, the labels affixed to the driver’s door frame contain incorrect information about the vehicle’s gross vehicle weight rating and tire inflation pressures. While this might sound like a minor mix-up, it’s a violation of federal safety standards.

If drivers follow the wrong numbers, they could overload the vehicle or underinflate the tires, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall covers certain 2020 through 2024 model year vehicles. Subaru says it will notify affected owners by mail starting in late April. Dealers will replace the incorrect labels with new, accurate ones at no cost to customers. For now, the company isn’t aware of any accidents or injuries tied to the mistake, but they’re urging owners to check their door jamb labels and visit a dealer if the information looks off.

For Boca Auto Care customers, this is a good reminder to never ignore a recall notice. Even if the fix seems small, like swapping out a sticker, it’s about keeping your vehicle safe and legal. If you drive a Subaru and aren’t sure whether your car is affected, bring it by our shop.

We can check your VIN and help you get the label corrected without the hassle of a dealership wait.
