Why Some Cars Just Won't Quit - and What That Means for Your European or Japanese Vehicle

Why Some Cars Just Won't Quit - and What That Means for Your European or Japanese Vehicle

Thirty years is a long time for any car to stay on the market without major changes. The Chevy Express van has done exactly that since 1996, and it’s still going into 2027 with only a minor facelift along the way. That kind of longevity is rare, but it raises a good question: which other vehicles from the mid-90s could still be on sale today and make sense for everyday drivers?

For us at Boca Auto Care, the answer is the third-generation Toyota 4Runner. Clean examples of that SUV are still worth nearly what they cost new—because they’re simple, reliable, and easy to fix. But that same thinking applies to many of the cars we work on every day: Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsche, VW, Volvo, Jaguar, Lexus, Toyota, and Honda models, including hybrids.

These brands build vehicles that can last decades when properly maintained.

What does this mean for you? If you own a European or Japanese car from the late 1990s or early 2000s, it’s not uncommon to see them still running strong. But age brings wear on belts, hoses, fluids, and suspension parts. Regular inspections catch small issues before they become expensive repairs.

And if a manufacturer recall applies to your vehicle, we’ll let you know and can inspect it right here in Boca Raton.

Bottom line: a well-built car from 1996 can still be a great daily driver today—as long as it gets the care it deserves.
