Where Is Your Mercedes Actually Built? (Hint: It Might Be Alabama)

If you drive a Mercedes-Benz, you probably picture it rolling out of a factory in Germany. And many do. But some of the brand's most popular models—especially the SUVs—are built right here in the United States, at a massive plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. 5 million vehicles so far.

About 60% of those SUVs are shipped overseas, which tells you something about the quality coming out of that plant.

So which current Mercedes models are made in Alabama? The GLE and GLE Coupe, the GLS, plus the electric EQE SUV and EQS SUV. There's also a Maybach version of the GLS and EQS SUV built there. If you own a Sprinter van, that comes from a separate plant in South Carolina. For a few years, the C-Class sedan was also built in Tuscaloosa, but that moved back overseas when the latest generation came out.

What does this mean for you? Not much day-to-day, but it's good to know where your car was assembled. And if you ever have a recall notice or a service issue that traces back to a specific model or plant, our shop can check it out. We've been working on Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche, VW, Volvo, Jaguar, Lexus, Toyota, and Honda vehicles—including hybrids—since 1989.

Bring it by Boca Auto Care and we'll take a look. No need to worry about where it was built; we know how to keep it running right.
