What Rivian’s Charging Network Plans Mean for Your European or Japanese Car

If you’ve been following electric vehicle news, you might have seen that Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe has big plans for his company’s charging network. Right now, Rivian’s network is only about 4% the size of Tesla’s—roughly 150 locations. Scaringe says they’ll keep adding sites steadily, but the real jump won’t happen for another couple of years.

What does this mean for you, the owner of a Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsche, VW, Volvo, Jaguar, Lexus, Toyota, or Honda? If you drive a hybrid or plug-in, you already know that charging reliability matters. Scaringe emphasized that uptime—meaning chargers actually working when you pull up—is critical.
He’s right. No matter what you drive, a dead charger is a headache.
At Boca Auto Care, we’ve been keeping European and Japanese cars running smoothly since 1989. While we don’t install charging stations or do bodywork, we do inspect and maintain your vehicle’s electrical systems, including hybrid battery health and charging components. If you have a recall or service notice related to your car’s high-voltage system, bring it by.
We’ll check it out, explain what’s needed in plain English, and get you back on the road with confidence.
Bottom line: Better charging networks are coming, but it’ll take time. Until then, keep your car in top shape with regular maintenance. We’re here to help.
