VW Logo Thefts Cost Owners Nearly $2,500 - The Badge Hides Something Valuable

Thieves in London are targeting select Volkswagen cars for their front logos, and the stolen part is costing owners almost $2,500 to replace. The reason? The VW badge isn't just plastic, it hides radar sensors used by the car's driver assistance systems and adaptive cruise control.
According to a report from The Telegraph, thieves stole front badges and radar sensors from up to 70 vehicles in south-east London between July 15 and 19. Some victims reported seeing a drone used for reconnaissance, and the theft itself reportedly took just five seconds.
One victim, Graham Dunn, lost the badge on his VW T-Roc on July 18 and gave police security footage. He said two men on Lime bikes completed the theft in under five seconds, causing nearly two thousand dollars in damage. Another victim, Giorgina Tomlin, described the theft as highly organized, noting the thieves knew exactly where every car was.
Stratis Alisafakis, who lost the badge on his VW Golf, was told by a dealership that replacing it would cost £1,500 (about $2,026). He started a petition but chose not to install a new badge, fearing it would be stolen again. He said a dealership employee told him they see three to four such cases a week.
Not all VW models are affected. AutoBlog reported that this radar setup appears only on select vehicles, including the Golf, Tiguan, Jetta, Passat, ID.4, and ID.5. Volkswagen has reportedly switched to a different radar design on newer models, moving the sensor away from behind the badge.
