Volkswagen’s ID. Tiguan: More Than Just a Fancy ID.4 Makeover

Volkswagen’s ID. Tiguan: More Than Just a Fancy ID.4 Makeover

4 may have ended production in Chattanooga back in April, but its spirit is getting a serious upgrade. The automaker confirmed existing inventory will keep dealers stocked into 2027, after which a heavily reworked successor—the ID. Tiguan—will hit American roads. Spy photographers recently caught a prototype testing in the Alps, and it’s clear this isn’t a simple facelift.

4, but the changes run deep. Up front, the fully enclosed grille borrows cues from the new ID. 3 Neo. The real action is below: a redesigned bumper channels air into revamped side curtains, and the lower intake swaps the old honeycomb mesh for horizontal bars. A new center-mounted sensor pod also appears.

Down the sides, the profile seems familiar until you spot new doors, a flatter shoulder line, conventional door handles, and streamlined lower cladding. Even the rear pillar and third-quarter glass have been reworked.

Out back, the liftgate, bumper, and diffuser are all new, with taillights cleverly hidden behind a photorealistic graphic. Inside, expect a fresh dashboard, upgraded displays, revised switchgear, and likely a new steering wheel with nicer materials. Under the skin, the ID. Tiguan moves to Volkswagen’s advanced MEB+ platform, promising 58- and 79-kWh battery packs and charging speeds around 183 kW.

Upgraded motors should deliver better performance and efficiency. Volkswagen plans to reveal more details late this year or early in 2027, but for now, the ID. 4.
