Volkswagen's First Tiguan R Spotted: Golf R Power in an SUV, But Not for the US

Volkswagen is finally bringing serious performance to its compact SUV lineup. The first-ever Tiguan R has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring, and it's clear the model is nearly ready for its official debut later this year.
The prototype, caught in Pure White with no camouflage, shows a more aggressive front bumper, larger cooling intakes, and quad exhaust tips that distinguish it from the R-Line trim. An R badge sits beside the headlights, confirming its flagship status. One styling misstep, however, is the fake mesh treatment on the lower rear bumper, which looks less convincing than the real quad exhaust outlets below.
0-liter EA888 four-cylinder engine, producing around 329 horsepower. A seven-speed DSG and 4Motion all-wheel drive are anticipated as standard, along with the torque-vectoring rear differential from the hot hatch. Since the Tiguan shares the MQB platform with the Golf, the powertrain transplant is straightforward, offering a more engaging drive than rivals like the Toyota RAV4 GR Sport, which relies on a hybrid and CVT setup.
Unfortunately for North American buyers, this model is unlikely to reach the US. The American Tiguan is actually based on Europe's Tayron, not the European Tiguan, making a direct import of the R version highly improbable.
