Volkswagen’s Cost-Cutting Drive May Kill Off the Jetta, Porsche Taycan, and 718

Volkswagen’s Cost-Cutting Drive May Kill Off the Jetta, Porsche Taycan, and 718

Volkswagen’s aggressive push to slash expenses could spell the end for several iconic models across its brands, according to a new report. The automaker is reportedly considering axing the Porsche Taycan, Cayenne Coupe, and the upcoming 718 successor, along with the VW Jetta and Taos, and the Audi Q5 Sportback and Q6 E-Tron Sportback.

The news comes from German outlet Bild, via Road & Track, and signals just how deep the company’s belt-tightening has become.

Elsewhere in the auto world, Rivian’s commercial van is quietly crushing it. From April through June, the EV maker sold over 4,000 of the vans, far outpacing competitors, GM moved just 460 BrightDrops before that model was discontinued. Meanwhile. S. over a faulty starter relay that could corrode and cause a fire.

The recall affects the 530e xDrive and 740Le xDrive. Subaru, too, has a recall, 541,000 cars, this time for incorrect gross axle weight ratings on labels. It’s less dangerous, but definitely a head-scratcher.

On the incentive front, California is offering $3,500 to first-time EV buyers for new cars up to $50,000, and a $1,750 rebate for used EVs under $25,000. And Infiniti is reworking its upcoming QX80 Red Sport to take on Mercedes-AMG and BMW M SUVs with more than just raw power. For Boca Auto Care, it’s a reminder that the industry is shifting fast, whether it’s cutting models, launching recalls, or chasing EV buyers.

Stay tuned.
