Volkswagen Recalls Nearly 58,000 SUVs Over Safety Defect - Check Your VIN

Volkswagen has issued a recall affecting 57,851 SUVs in the United States, covering certain 2024 and 2025 model year Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles. The German automaker notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) this week after discovering a potential issue with the front passenger detection system.

According to the recall notice, the system may fail to properly sense an occupant, causing the airbag to either not deploy when needed or deploy when it shouldn't.

The problem centers on a wiring harness connector that can become corroded over time, leading to intermittent electrical signals. Volkswagen says it will replace the affected part free of charge at any authorized dealer. Owners can expect notification letters to arrive by late March, but those who want to act sooner can enter their 17-digit VIN on the NHTSA’s recall website to see if their vehicle is included.

The recall campaign carries NHTSA ID number 25V-087.

This isn’t the first time Volkswagen has dealt with sensor-related recalls in its SUV lineup, but the company says it has no reports of crashes or injuries linked to this specific defect. For local drivers, Boca Auto Care is providing this information to help owners stay informed and address the recall promptly.

If your Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport is affected, scheduling a repair with a certified Volkswagen service center is the next step.
