Volkswagen Group Weighs Major Cuts: Jetta, Porsche Models on the Block

Volkswagen Group is preparing to slash its sprawling lineup by as much as half as it grapples with financial headwinds. The German automaker announced last week that it would gradually streamline its portfolio, but it didn’t specify which models would go. Now, a report from German newspaper Bild claims to have the internal hit list, and it includes some familiar names from VW and Porsche showrooms.
According to the report, the long-running Volkswagen Jetta sedan is a likely casualty, along with the Taos subcompact SUV. On the Porsche side, the Taycan EV won’t get a second generation, and the Cayenne Coupe is also said to be on the chopping block. Future gas-powered 718 Boxster and Cayman models are reportedly scrapped, too.
Audi’s Q5 Sportback and Q6 e-tron Sportback are also named. S. buyers.
None of this has been officially confirmed by Volkswagen Group, and even if these models are phased out, they could remain on sale for another year or more. What is certain is that trim levels and option packages will shrink dramatically, the company says it plans to cut equipment choices by up to 75 percent.
