Two American Hypercars That Leave the 2025 Corvette ZR1 in the Rearview

The 2025 Corvette ZR1 is a beast by any measure. 5-liter V8 that churns out 1,064 horsepower and hits 233 mph. Chevrolet calls it the fastest car under $1 million, and with an expected price tag between $180,000 and $205,000, that claim holds up. But even this track-focused monster can’t keep pace with two American hypercars that operate in a completely different financial and performance stratosphere.
First up is the Hennessey Venom F5. 6-liter twin-turbo V8 produces 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 lb-ft of torque, enough to push a claimed top speed of 328 mph. During development, it hit a verified 270 mph, already 37 mph faster than the ZR1. The Venom F5 weighs just 2,998 pounds thanks to extensive carbon fiber, compared to the ZR1’s 3,670 to 3,758 pounds.
That weight advantage, combined with a 7-speed automated manual or optional 6-speed manual, makes it a different kind of machine. 1 million.
Then there’s the SSC Tuatara. 9-liter twin-turbo V8 puts out 1,350 horsepower on pump gas, 1,750 on E85, and over 2,200 on methanol. 5 seconds. 279, the Tuatara is built for speed, not downforce. That’s the opposite of the ZR1, which generates over 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed.
9 million. Both hypercars aim for 310 mph, but tire technology remains the final hurdle. For now, the ZR1 remains the king of the sub-million-dollar club.
