Convertible Top Malfunction Reported in Certain Vehicles

Some owners of Mercedes-Benz convertibles, including the 2011 E350, have experienced issues with their convertible tops failing to retract. The symptoms of this problem include the windows dropping as expected, the hydraulic pump engaging and running for about 3 seconds, and then stopping.

Despite the lack of error messages on the dash and a steady hydraulic fluid level, the process comes to a halt. This issue may not be limited to Mercedes-Benz, as other European convertibles such as BMW and Audi models could potentially be affected. A thorough inspection of the hydraulic system and electrical components is recommended to troubleshoot the problem.

In some cases, rebuilding the pump may be necessary. Owners of affected vehicles should have their cars checked by a qualified technician to determine the cause of the malfunction and have it repaired.
