Tragedy Strikes at Lantana Intersection: 67-Year-Old Man Killed in Seven-Car Pileup

A devastating seven-car crash at the intersection of East Ocean Avenue and North Dixie Highway in Lantana has claimed the life of a 67-year-old suburban Boca Raton man. m. on Tuesday, June 23, when a speeding 2017 Jeep Wrangler struck a 2023 Mazda CSX, sending it spinning into a nearby car.

The driver of the Mazda, Jose Bedoya, was pronounced dead at the scene by Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. The Jeep Wrangler's driver, a 34-year-old Lake Worth Beach-area man, is facing pending charges, with investigators suspecting that either drugs or alcohol may have contributed to the crash.

Two other people were seriously injured in the wreck, including a man who sustained serious injuries and a woman who suffered minor ones. They were airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach via Trauma Hawk helicopters. The accident caused significant damage, with debris from the collision striking an eighth car.

Authorities are still investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to come forward. The Lantana police department closed Dixie Highway in both directions for several hours, redirecting traffic at Lantana Road and West Pine Street.
