Toyota’s V8 GR Supercar Isn’t Even for Sale Yet - and Two Wilder Versions Are Already Testing

Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division isn’t wasting any time. Before customers have even taken delivery of the flagship GR GT twin-turbo V8, engineers are already putting two new, more extreme prototypes through their paces at the Nürburgring. The strategy mirrors Mercedes-AMG’s approach with the GT 63, offering multiple flavors of the same beast.
The first prototype, heavily camouflaged, looks close to the production car unveiled last December but with subtle upgrades. Up front, aerodynamic canards have been added to the bumper edges for extra downforce. At the rear, an exposed carbon-fiber lip spoiler replaces the body-colored unit, though it doesn’t appear larger.
Underneath, expect retuned suspension and brakes, plus software tweaks. This version likely serves as a higher-performance package for the standard model.
Alongside it, a second, track-focused prototype was spotted. Think of it as Toyota’s answer to the 911 GT3 RS, or given the GR GT’s size and heft, closer to a Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. It features a front splitter, four canards, adjustable louvers in the front quarter panels, and a towering swan-neck rear wing.
Surprisingly, the rear bumper and diffuser remain unchanged. 0-liter twin-turbo V8 cranks out over 641 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque; this track version could push closer to 700 hp, aided by upgraded chassis and suspension components and a likely weight reduction from the expected 3,858-pound curb weight.
