Toyota’s 2027 Tundra Trailhunter Brings Serious Off-Road Gear Without the Sky-High Price Tag

Toyota’s 2027 Tundra Trailhunter Brings Serious Off-Road Gear Without the Sky-High Price Tag

Toyota is giving its full-size Tundra pickup a major refresh for 2027, and the big news is a new Trailhunter package aimed at buyers who want real off-road capability without breaking the bank. While the automaker has teased a more extreme TRD Hammer variant down the road, the Trailhunter lands as a more accessible option, stacking on hardware like bronze wheels, a locking rear differential, reinforced underbody protection, upgraded suspension from Old Man Emu, and bigger Michelin LTX Trail tires.

It’s a practical step up for anyone who needs a work-ready truck that can also handle rough trails.

The Trailhunter package starts with the Tundra’s SR5 trim, which sits one notch above the base model and already includes alloy wheels, a trailer-brake controller, and a Tow/Haul drive mode. 4-liter V-6, unless you opt for the hybrid powertrain, though Toyota notes that hybrid buyers likely won’t get the Trailhunter treatment.

The truck also gains Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control modes for better traction in mud, sand, or rock, plus front recovery hooks for when things get sticky.

The 2027 Tundra lineup gets a sharper look up front, with a boxier grille and a more squared-off lower bumper. 0-inch touchscreen running an updated infotainment system that includes a built-in dash cam. Safety features have been upgraded, and the available front light bar is brighter for better visibility on dark roads.

Toyota hasn’t released pricing yet, that’s expected later this year, but with the 2026 SR5 starting at $48,705, the Trailhunter package should push the 2027 model past the $50,000 mark.
