Toyota Recalls Over Half a Million Camrys Due to Instrument Display Glitch

The Toyota Camry has long been praised for its reliability, but even this dependable sedan isn't immune to technical problems. A software issue has prompted a recall affecting 508,354 current-generation Camrys built between August 15, 2024, and June 9, 2026.
The problem only impacts lower-trim models like the SE and LE, which come with the smaller 7-inch instrument display. Camrys with the larger 12.3-inch screen, such as the XSE and XLE trims, are not included in this recall.
In certain situations, the 7-inch screen may fail to turn on when the car starts. This not only hides critical information like speed but also disables turn signals and some warning chimes, all of which are legally required and essential for safe driving.
Toyota first received reports of the issue in July 2024. The company collected and tested affected parts but couldn't reproduce the problem until last October. It appears the exact cause was identified a couple of months ago.
The fix is a software update that must be installed by a dealership technician, there's no over-the-air option. The update is free, and owners are not being told to stop driving their cars. Dealers have already been notified, and owner letters will go out in about a month. For questions, owners can call Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 and reference recall numbers 26TB16 and 26TA16.
