Toyota Recalls Over 500K Camrys Over Blank Digital Dash Display

Toyota Recalls Over 500K Camrys Over Blank Digital Dash Display

Toyota is recalling more than half a million Camry hybrids due to a software glitch that can leave the digital instrument cluster blank, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

0-inch digital display. The issue can cause the screen to stay dark when the car starts, which disables the speedometer, turn signals, hazard lights, and warning buzzers. Seatbelt reminders and alerts for a key left inside the car may also fail.

Toyota's internal investigation traced the problem to a software error affecting only those with the 7.0-inch cluster. The NHTSA notes that the malfunction also turns off exterior turn signals and hazard lights, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners will be notified by October 5 and can take their vehicle to a Toyota dealer for a free software update. Camry owners can also check the NHTSA website to see if their car is included in the recall.
