Toyota Issues Recall for Heavy-Duty SUVs Over Axle Defect

Toyota has announced a recall affecting several of its largest SUV models after discovering a potential axle issue that could compromise vehicle safety. The recall targets the 2023 and 2024 Sequoia, as well as the 2022 through 2024 Tundra, both known for their size and towing capacity.
According to the automaker, a manufacturing flaw in the rear axle assembly may cause the axle shaft to break, leading to a loss of power or, in extreme cases, a wheel detachment.
The problem stems from improper heat treatment during production, which can create weak points in the metal. Toyota has received reports of at least 10 incidents related to the defect, though no injuries or crashes have been confirmed. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified starting in late January, and dealerships will inspect and replace the rear axle shafts free of charge.
The repair is expected to take about two hours.
This recall adds to a challenging year for Toyota, which has faced several high-profile safety actions.
