Toyota Gives the Crown a Subtle 2027 Refresh with a New Hybrid and a Surprising Price Jump

Toyota’s oddball Crown, part sedan, part SUV, is getting a modest makeover for 2027. The biggest news under the hood? An updated hybrid system called "Toyota Hybrid System 5" for the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade trims. 5-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors and a third motor integrated into the CVT.
Strangely, fuel economy dips by 1 mpg to 40 mpg combined. The top-tier Platinum keeps its punchier 340-hp Hybrid Max powertrain.
Visually, changes are subtle. The rear bumper gets a slight tweak, and a new black paint job called "Inked" joins the palette. The hybrid badges now have a satin finish, and the Platinum trim comes standard with red brake calipers and black window trim. Inside, the Limited offers Saddle Tan seats for the first time, while the Platinum extends that hue throughout the cabin.
Paddle shifters are now standard on the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade trims.
Pricing tells a more dramatic story. The base XLE starts at $42,755, just $200 more than last year. But the Limited trim jumps a whopping $3,770 to $51,015, making it more expensive than the Nightshade at $50,260. The Platinum tops out at $56,485, also up $200. Expect the 2027 Crown to hit dealerships in the next couple of months.
