Toyota Camry Outpaces Every SUV in Its Own Lineup

The Toyota Camry is currently outselling every SUV in Toyota's American lineup, a surprising twist in a market that has heavily favored crossovers and trucks. Through the first six months of 2026. Toyota sold 179,044 Camrys in the United States, placing it ahead of the RAV4, which recorded 153,955 deliveries during the same period.
The Corolla followed with 131,403 sales.
5-percent increase for the Camry compared to the same period in 2025, when Toyota sold 156,330 units. June was especially strong, with 31,573 Camrys sold, up nearly 20 percent from June last year. As a result, the Camry has become Toyota's best-selling vehicle in America so far this year, regardless of body style, beating out models like the Highlander, 4Runner, Sequoia, and Land Cruiser.
Part of the Camry's success stems from Toyota making the latest generation hybrid-only. Every Camry now comes with an electrified powertrain, while retaining the practicality, reliability, and relatively affordable pricing that have long defined the nameplate.
However, the RAV4's drop in sales is not due to a loss of buyer interest. Its numbers fell because Toyota was managing the transition to a redesigned model, which limited availability early in the year. 7 percent compared to the first half of 2025, when Toyota moved 239,451 units.
Demand is already recovering, with the RAV4 Hybrid achieving an all-time sales record as the new model reaches customers.
The 4Runner also saw a dramatic surge, with sales climbing almost 140 percent to 72,320 vehicles in the first half, though it still trails the Camry by a wide margin.
The broader picture is that Toyota's hybrid-heavy strategy is paying off. Toyota Motor North America sold 122,063 electrified vehicles in June, a 35-percent increase, representing 57.4 percent of all Toyota and Lexus sales that month. The mainstream Toyota division hit an electrification mix of 61.4 percent.
While the RAV4 is expected to regain momentum as redesigned models arrive in greater numbers, for now the Camry holds the crown, a hybrid sedan beating every SUV in its own stable.
