This Rare Stick-Shift Sebring Convertible Asks $7,500 - But There's a Catch

This Rare Stick-Shift Sebring Convertible Asks $7,500 - But There's a Catch

It’s not every day you see a Chrysler Sebring with a manual transmission. In fact, according to the seller, only about 1,000 of these 2004 GTC convertibles left the factory with three pedals. That rarity is the main selling point for this burgundy-over-gray drop-top, currently listed on Phoenix Craigslist for $7,500.

But before you start picturing wind-in-your-hair drives, there’s a hole in that plan, literally. The convertible top has a noticeable tear, and the driver’s seat leather is worn through in spots. Still, the car comes with a clean title and a claimed no-smoking, no-pets history.

7-liter DOHC V6 making 200 horsepower, paired with a five-speed manual that drives the front wheels. The ad says the A/C blows cold, which matters when you’re in Arizona. The paint is solid, the body is straight, and the headlamp covers are clear, small wins for a 20-year-old car with 110,000 miles.

On the downside, the shift knob is polished smooth from years of use, and that top issue means you’ll want to check the weather forecast before heading out.

This Sebring is a strange bird. Its convertible platform was shared with the Chrysler Cirrus and built in Mexico, while the coupe version rode on Mitsubishi Eclipse bones and was assembled in Normal, Illinois. For years, Sebring convertibles were the default rental car at sunny vacation spots, think Hawaii and Florida.

That rental reputation doesn’t do the model any favors, but the manual gearbox and GTC trim set this one apart from the airport fleet. The asking price was originally a typo-laden $75,000 before being corrected to $7,500. At that figure, you’re getting a rare four-seat stick-shift convertible with quirks.

Whether those quirks are worth the cash is up to you.
