Tire Pressure Check Method

Tire Pressure Check Method

Proper tire pressure is essential for a vehicle's performance, fuel economy, and safety. A method to evaluate correct tire pressure is the '4 PSI rule'. This involves checking tire pressure before a highway trip and again after 30 minutes of driving. A normal increase in pressure is around 4 PSI.

If the increase is significantly higher, the tire might have been underinflated, while a smaller increase could indicate overinflation. This rule is based on the science of tire friction and heat buildup. However, it has limitations and may not apply in certain situations, such as off-roading or driving with specialized tires.

Vehicle owners, including those with Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsche, VW, Volvo, Jaguar, Lexus, Toyota, and Honda vehicles, should be aware of the recommended tire pressure for their specific vehicle. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and vehicle manufacturers provide guidelines for proper tire pressure.
