The $88,000 Jeep Wrangler Moab 392 Is Ridiculous. That’s Why It Works.

The $88,000 Jeep Wrangler Moab 392 Is Ridiculous. That’s Why It Works.

By any rational measure, the 2026 Jeep Wrangler Moab 392 shouldn’t be here. It stickers for nearly $90,000. Its fuel economy would make a full-size pickup blush. It rides rougher than SUVs costing half as much, and most buyers would likely be happier in a base model. ” But the eight-cylinder beast refused to die.

After a week behind the wheel, it’s easy to see why.

The Moab package doesn’t reinvent the Wrangler, and that’s a good thing. The aggressive stance, chunky tires, and exposed hinges all scream function over flash. 4-liter V8 pumping out 470 horsepower. 5 seconds. That’s absurd. But the real magic isn’t the speed—it’s the sound. The instant throttle response.

The burbles and growls on every errand run. Inside, the cabin feels purposeful, with large physical switches for locking differentials and sway-bar disconnect that work even with muddy gloves. The Uconnect infotainment system remains one of the best in the business.

Off-road, the Moab 392 demolishes everything in its path. Steep climbs, deep mud, loose gravel—it handles it all with an almost unfair level of competence. The solid axles, locking diffs, and 35-inch tires turn difficult terrain into a casual Sunday drive. On pavement, the ride is mediocre and the body roll is real.

You can’t forget this is still a Wrangler. But driven without haste, it’s wonderful. The Bronco Raptor is arguably a better daily driver, but it lacks the V8. Other Wranglers are more sensible, but they don’t turn every trip into an event. At $88,320 as tested, the Moab 392 is loud, thirsty, and objectively unnecessary.

It’s also one of the most entertaining vehicles on sale today. That’s why it refuses to disappear.
