The 2027 Lotus Emira: A Raw, Analog Sports Car for Purists Willing to Compromise

The 2027 Lotus Emira is a rare breed in today’s automotive world, a lightweight, mid-engine sports car that prioritizes driver engagement over luxury or cutting-edge tech. With either a turbocharged four-cylinder or a naturally aspirated V-6 mounted behind the seats, and a six-speed manual available exclusively with the V-6, the Emira delivers a racy, immersive experience that feels pulled from motoring’s golden era.

Its hydraulically assisted steering offers unmatched feedback, and the chassis tuning is nothing short of brilliant. But don’t expect plush amenities: the interior is minimalistic, the manual shifter demands a firm hand, and the brakes are grabby and tough to modulate smoothly.

For 2027, Lotus adds a new 420 Sport trim with 14 extra horsepower (414 hp from the turbo-four) and an optional Lightweight Handling package that sheds 55 pounds via a titanium exhaust, carbon-fiber bits, and aerodynamic tweaks. A removable glass roof panel is now available across all trims.

However, the Emira’s six-figure starting price, around $125,000 for the 420 Sport, doesn’t buy the same polish as a Chevrolet Corvette or Maserati GranTurismo. 4 seconds, but the Nissan Z Performance offers similar pace for half the cost. What you’re really paying for is the singular, analog driving character that Lotus has always championed.

2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and physical climate controls. Cargo space totals 12 cubic feet split between a rear bin and a compartment behind the engine, though the latter gets hot. Standard safety tech includes automated emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring, with adaptive cruise control optional.

Warranty coverage is modest: three years or 36,000 miles with no complimentary maintenance. Fuel economy ranges from 16 to 18 mpg city and 24 to 26 mpg highway, depending on the powertrain. For those who crave a pure, uncompromising sports car, the Emira is a treasure. Just be ready to live with its quirks.
