The 2000s Fastest American Sedan Now Sells for Under $10K

The 2000s Fastest American Sedan Now Sells for Under $10K

The Cadillac STS-V was a shock when it debuted at the 2005 Detroit Auto Show. A brand known for luxury suddenly had a supercharged V8, Brembo brakes, and a bold challenge to BMW and Mercedes-AMG. 6 seconds with 469 horsepower and 439 lb-ft of torque, making it the fastest sedan in America that decade.

But the STS-V cost nearly $80,000 new. When the economy crashed, buyers lost interest, and the Dodge Charger SRT8 arrived at roughly half the price with 425 horsepower, stealing momentum. Both cars have since depreciated heavily. A 2006 STS-V in clean condition now fetches around $5,991 private party or $6,445 dealer retail, per Edmunds.

Some high-mileage examples list for about $8,000, while a low-mileage Japanese import sold for $13,266 on Bring a Trailer.

The Charger SRT8, which started near $38,095, also drops to similar used prices. But because it was cheaper new, the STS-V may offer better value on a depreciation-adjusted basis. Well-kept Chargers, though, are seeing collector interest push auction prices higher. Either way, both are affordable performance sleepers today.
