Tesla Brings Bigger Model Y to America, Starting at $63,630

For years, families who wanted a three-row Tesla had one real choice: the Model X, with its flashy falcon-wing doors and premium price tag. But now that the X has been retired, Tesla is finally offering a more practical alternative. Enter the Model Y L, a stretched version of the popular electric SUV that has already been on sale in China.

S. with a six-inch-longer wheelbase and a starting price of $63,630 for the Launch Series.

The extra length translates into a proper third row, something the standard Model Y could only hint at with its cramped optional seats. The Model Y L is also two inches taller than the regular version, giving it a slightly puffier stance. Cargo space jumps to 89 cubic feet, up 12 from the standard Y, and the rear door openings are wider for easier access.

The Launch Series comes with captain's chairs in the second row, making it a more comfortable ride for passengers in back—whether that's kids or the occasional carpool.

Under the hood, the Model Y L packs the same 83-kWh battery and dual-motor all-wheel drive as the Model Y Premium. Tesla claims a 325-mile range on 19-inch wheels and a slightly quicker 0-to-60 time than its shorter sibling. Towing capacity holds steady at 3,500 pounds. The $12,000 premium over the standard Model Y buys you mostly extra space, not a laundry list of options.

Deliveries are expected this fall, giving Model X loyalists a new reason to stay in the Tesla family.
