Tacoma Trailhunter: The Priciest Tacoma Is Built for Work, Not Luxury

The most expensive Toyota Tacoma isn't the luxury-focused Limited trim. Instead, it's the Trailhunter, a factory-built overlanding rig designed for carrying gear and tackling rough terrain.
The Tacoma Limited, with its comfort features like heated and ventilated seats, a 14-inch touchscreen, and a JBL sound system, starts around $53,170 to $56,495 including destination fees. 4-liter four-cylinder with 228 hp, while an available hybrid upgrade boosts output to 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.
The 2026 Tacoma Trailhunter, however, starts at roughly $63,650 and can reach about $69,100 with options. It comes only with the hybrid engine and includes many Limited's premium features, plus off-road gear from the TRD Pro trim. Unique additions include IsoDynamic front seats for stability, 18-inch bronze wheels, Old Man Emu shocks, an ARB bed utility bar, rock rails, a steel rear bumper, a snorkel, an integrated air compressor, and a 20-inch LED light bar.
The Trailhunter offers 11.2 inches of ground clearance, can ford water up to 35 inches, and has approach, breakover, and departure angles of 35.2, 24.0, and 22.3 degrees. It weighs about 5,360 pounds in standard form, tows up to 6,000 pounds, and carries up to 1,475 pounds of payload.
Still, buyers will need extra gear. The truck doesn't include a rooftop tent or camper setup, and its roof rating is just 130 pounds while moving. The bed can fit a 12V fridge, and owners might add a camp kitchen, power bank, storage boxes, and recovery gear like soft shackles and traction boards.
