1941 Ford Discovered on Sunken WWII Aircraft Carrier

A 1941 Ford Super Deluxe Woody was discovered near the port-side hangar bay of a sunken World War II aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean. 2 miles deep by the ROV Deep Discoverer, an underwater submersible, during a survey of the ship's hull by the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer. Despite being submerged for 83 years, the car's iconic features, including its split windshield and wooden panels, remain identifiable.

A handmade plate on the front of the car reads 'SHIP SERVICE ___ NAVY', suggesting it may have been owned by the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and driven onto the boat during repairs after the Battle of the Coral Sea in 1942. The USS Yorktown, the aircraft carrier on which the car was found, was sunk on June 7, 1942.

The discovery provides a glimpse into the history of the vessel and its contents.
