Subaru Recalls Over Half a Million SUVs Over Incorrect Weight Stickers That Risk Overloading

Subaru is recalling 541,237 SUVs after discovering that the weight labels on certain models were printed incorrectly. The error could lead drivers to unknowingly overload their vehicles, increasing the risk of tire failure and crashes. The recall affects several popular models and is a significant move by the automaker to address a safety issue that might otherwise go unnoticed.
The problem lies in the certification labels attached to the driver’s side doorjamb. These labels list the vehicle’s gross vehicle weight rating and tire pressure specs, but on the affected SUVs, the numbers were wrong. That means a driver loading the vehicle to what they think is a safe limit could actually be exceeding the real capacity, putting stress on the suspension and tires.
Subaru says no accidents or injuries have been reported yet, but the potential for trouble is clear.
Owners of impacted models will receive notification letters starting in April, and dealerships will replace the incorrect labels for free. In the meantime, Subaru advises drivers to check their vehicle’s actual weight limits by contacting a dealer or looking up the correct specs online.
For a company known for its safety-focused reputation, this recall underscores just how critical a simple sticker can be.
