Subaru Recalls Nearly 70,000 Forester Models Over Sunroof Risk

Subaru has announced a major recall covering 69,663 Forester and Forester Hybrid vehicles from the 2026 model year, even as the Japanese automaker remains absent from official Russian sales channels. The recall, first reported by Carscoops, affects 65,656 standard Foresters built between June 19, 2025, and March 13, 2026, along with 4,007 hybrid versions produced from February 20 to May 17, 2026.
The issue centers on the glass sunroof, which may detach while driving. Subaru says the glass panel might not be properly bonded to its sliding frame, and the connection can weaken over time. If the panel separates, it could fly off the vehicle, creating a hazard for trailing drivers who may need to swerve suddenly to avoid the debris.
The investigation began in February 2026 after the first report of a sunroof detaching during a trip. Subaru traced the problem to a supplier that may have failed to apply adequate adhesive to secure the glass to the moving mechanism. The company has since filed three technical reports on the defect.
So far, no accidents or injuries have been reported in connection with the recall.
This recall follows a separate action from Ford, which recently ordered 4,653 owners of 2021–2026 Bronco Sport and Maverick models to stop driving immediately due to possible improper installation of front lower control arm ball joints.
Subaru has not yet announced a timeline for repairs, but owners are advised to contact their local dealers for inspection and replacement of the sunroof assembly at no cost.
