Subaru Pushes Back Getaway EV Production, Citing Last-Minute Tweaks

Subaru has finally confirmed what many suspected: the all-new 2027 Getaway electric SUV won’t be hitting the assembly line on time. The automaker announced a delay in production, saying it needs more time to finish final adjustments before the vehicle launches. Until now, Subaru had stuck to its original fall 2026 timeline without acknowledging any hiccups, even as its partner Toyota flagged a similar issue weeks ago.
The explanation Subaru gave to Carscoops sounds familiar, because it’s almost identical to Toyota’s. “The start of production for the Getaway is expected to be delayed to allow sufficient time for final adjustments before launch,” the company said. Earlier this month. Toyota cited the same reason for pushing back production of its own three-row electric SUV, the Highlander.
That’s no surprise: the Getaway and the Toyota EV share a platform and are both slated to be built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky. Once Toyota’s delay came to light, questions swirled about whether Subaru would follow suit. Now we have our answer.
Subaru hasn’t specified how long the delay will last or whether it will affect customer deliveries. The company also declined to detail what those “final adjustments” involve, software tweaks, manufacturing readiness, or validation testing. Toyota, for its part, said the Highlander faces at least an eight-week setback.
For buyers eyeing the Getaway, the wait may not sting much. This three-row electric SUV is Subaru’s big bet to expand beyond the Solterra and meet growing family demand. A few extra months to get it right beats rushing out a half-baked model.
