Subaru Pulls Over Half a Million Cars for Safety Fix - Check Your Model Here

S. due to a potential engine problem that could increase the risk of a crash. The automaker says the issue involves a faulty valve spring in the engine, which could break and cause the motor to stall unexpectedly while driving. That sudden loss of power could prevent the airbags from deploying in a collision.
The recall affects certain 2019 through 2022 model year vehicles, including popular models like the Ascent, Outback, Legacy, and Impreza. Specifically, the recall covers the 2019-2022 Ascent, 2020-2022 Outback and Legacy, and the 2021-2022 Impreza. Subaru says the problem stems from a manufacturing defect in the valve springs, which were not properly heat-treated during production.
The company has received reports of engine failures but no confirmed crashes or injuries tied to the issue so far.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified starting in late April. Subaru dealers will inspect the engine and, if needed, replace the valve springs at no charge. If you own one of these models, you can check your vehicle identification number on Subaru’s recall website or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s site.
Subaru advises drivers to pay attention to any warning lights, rough idling, or loss of power, and to contact their dealer immediately if they experience these symptoms.
