Kia and Mercedes-Benz Issue Recalls for Seatbelt Systems

Kia is recalling approximately 6,264 Telluride and Telluride Hybrid models from the 2027 model year due to a faulty sensor in the driver's seatbelt. The sensor can cause the pretensioner to lock up when the belt is pulled out, potentially affecting its performance in an emergency.
No injuries have been reported. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz is recalling 207 GLE and GLS models from 2026, including AMG versions, because a rear seatbelt mounting bolt may not have been tightened to specification. This could lead to the bolt failing in a collision, compromising passenger safety.
Mercedes-Benz identified the issue during quality checks and has no reports of accidents or warranty claims related to the problem. These recalls serve as a reminder for vehicle owners to inspect their seatbelts for any issues, such as sticking, difficulty retracting, or looseness.
The recalls do not directly affect other brands like BMW, Audi, Porsche, VW, Volvo, Jaguar, Lexus, Toyota, or Honda.
