Review: 2026 BMW M5 Touring Is Fast and Practical, but Lacks Personality

After a 1,200-mile week-long road trip in the 2026 BMW M5 Touring, a CarBuzz reviewer came away impressed by the performance but underwhelmed by the character. 5 seconds. 4 seconds in a 5,500-pound car. Acceleration is relentless, and the wagon grips corners far better than expected for something this large, but after a few hard runs the experience feels clinical and detached.

Practicality is a strong point. 6 cubic feet. The cabin is comfortable, with leather, Alcantara, carbon fiber, heated and ventilated seats, plus a large glass roof. But the interior also feels generic, with a somewhat cheap center console and piano black surfaces that smudge easily.

In Comfort mode, bumps come through with noticeable resonance, while Sport mode is a little quiet. Fuel efficiency is solid: the reviewer consistently saw around 25 mpg, with roughly 25 miles of electric-only range.

Pricing is hard to ignore. The M5 Touring starts at $125,300, and the tested example climbed to $140,775 with options including carbon ceramic brakes, the M Driver’s Package, destination and gas-guzzler tax. The reviewer’s verdict is blunt: after a day it seems like the best car in the universe; after 1,200 miles, it becomes just a fast wagon.

Personality matters, and this M5 Touring simply does not have one.
