Readers Reveal the Cars They Secretly Love Despite Hating Them

Car enthusiasts often have strong opinions about what they drive, but sometimes a vehicle breaks through those biases. In a recent discussion, readers shared the models they can't help but admire, even when those cars fall outside their usual preferences.

Toyota dominated the conversation, with several readers admitting surprise at how much they enjoyed the Camry and Camry Hybrid. One driver noted the current Camry outperformed their turbocharged Genesis G70 in real-world acceleration and delivered over 50 mpg, calling it "truly exceptional" despite being a front-wheel-drive hybrid sedan.

Another reader, who had been anti-Toyota for years, praised the Camry Hybrid's highway acceleration and sprightly city driving, crediting its e-CVT transmission for the positive experience.

The Prius also earned unexpected praise. One former critic became a defender after spending seven-plus hours daily in one for work, citing its efficiency, comfort, and roominess. Another reader took a Prius on an 1,800-mile round trip in winter, through snow and ice, and found it flawless and comfortable, even after 15 hours behind the wheel.

Other submissions included the BMW i3, described as a cool, practical city car; the Ford Mustang Mach-E, appreciated despite its controversial name; and the Ram 1500 Warlock, liked for its value, inline-six engine, and warranty, though the reader acknowledged trucks are dangerous and bad for the environment.

The Jeep Wrangler and Toyota 4Runner appealed to one reader for their rugged engineering and manual transmissions, despite no real off-road need.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia was called unreliable and underperforming compared to the BMW 3 Series, but its looks and handling won over one reader. Modified Subaru WRX/STIs, often driven by "annoying bros," still drew admiration for their presence. The VW New Beetle was deemed an objectively poor layout but a "happy little car" worth daily driving.

Finally, the Lexus CT200h, though slow, appealed for its looks and size, with one reader hoping to modify its Prius-based drivetrain.
