RCR Owner Richard Childress Fumes: Van Gisbergen Wrecked Hill on Purpose at Chicagoland

The tension boiled over at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday when Richard Childress Racing owner Richard Childress accused Shane van Gisbergen of intentionally wrecking driver Austin Hill. The incident, which ended Hill's day early in the NASCAR Cup Series race, sparked heated radio chatter and accusations of payback for a previous on-track dispute.
As Hill climbed from his mangled No. 21 Chevrolet, his team's frustration was immediate. " He then added, "Somebody talk to NASCAR about that. " The comments reference an earlier incident between Hill and van Gisbergen earlier this season, which Childress believes triggered Sunday's contact.
Hill's spotter and crew urged calm, telling the driver to keep his cool and avoid retaliation while the race was under caution.
When reporters asked Hill about the crash, he didn't directly accuse van Gisbergen but made his stance clear. "I'm sure y'all seen the replay, so if I have to explain it, people probably need to get glasses," Hill said. " NASCAR has not yet announced a review, but the damage is done: Hill is out of the race, and the controversy is sure to linger long after the checkered flag.
