Ram Drops eTorque From Hemi V8 for 2027, Responding to Buyer Pushback

Ram Drops eTorque From Hemi V8 for 2027, Responding to Buyer Pushback

7-liter Hemi V8 starting with the 2027 model year, replacing it with a conventional version of the engine. The move follows years of brisk aftermarket sales of devices designed to disable the automatic stop/start feature that came with the hybrid setup. Power remains unchanged at 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, but the 48-volt battery, belt-integrated starter-generator, and stop/start all disappear.

Variable valve timing and the cylinder-deactivating Multi-Displacement System carry over.

The switch won’t happen overnight. Production records obtained by MoparInsiders show the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant is expected to begin building non-eTorque trucks in late September, meaning both versions will likely sit on dealer lots for a time. Ram says the non-hybrid trucks should reach buyers this fall.

2-liter. Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis confirmed the simpler engine will also appear in more affordable Express trims, saying removing the hybrid hardware was "Hell yeah, that’s a good idea" for traditional truck buyers.

eTorque had been standard on every Hemi-powered Ram 1500 since 2019, but disappeared with the Hemi during the 2025 model year, a move Kuniskis later called a misstep. 7 returned for 2026, it came back with eTorque partly because that combination already had EPA certification. With the EPA easing fuel-economy rules that made mild-hybrid credits essential, that constraint is gone.

A Ram spokesperson said buyers who want a Hemi often want the "sound, feel, and simplicity" of a naturally aspirated V8, not extra hybrid hardware. The company’s direct acknowledgment marks a shift: customers who spent years buying workarounds for a system they didn’t want will now get the truck they asked for.
