Porsche Spices Up the 911 GT3 Lineup With a Retro Ducktail Spoiler

Porsche’s 911 GT3 family is about to get a new member, and it’s bringing back a classic design cue that hasn’t appeared on any GT model before. Spy photographers recently caught a bright red prototype tearing around the Nürburgring, and the big surprise was hiding out back: a ducktail spoiler.
7, has popped up on limited-run 911s over the years, but never on a GT3. Until now.
The timing makes sense. Just months after launching the open-top GT3 S/C, Porsche’s GT boss Andreas Preuninger told GoAuto that the company isn’t chasing big power numbers or heavy tech. His target is around 500 horsepower and a curb weight of roughly 1,500 kilograms. “We don’t get too distracted about four-digit horsepower and active ride if that means two tonnes,” he said.
That philosophy keeps the GT3 focused and light, which is exactly what buyers want, demand has been so strong that Porsche already added the Touring and S/C variants.
The prototype’s decklid wore a GT3 Touring badge, which raises two possibilities. Porsche could offer the ducktail as an option on the Touring, giving drivers a middle ground between the standard car’s fixed wing and the Touring’s active spoiler. Or, knowing Porsche’s love for limited editions, this could become a standalone model.
Either way, the ducktail suits the 911’s lines beautifully, and with a center-mounted brake light already in place, this design looks ready for production.
