Porsche Brings Back the Manual for the 2027 911 Carrera S

After dropping stick shifts from the 911 lineup during last year's mid-cycle update, Porsche is reversing course. The 2027 911 Carrera S will once again offer a manual transmission, borrowing the six-speed unit from the Carrera T.
The manual option, called the MT Package, adds several standard features to the Carrera S, including rear-axle steering, the Sport Chrono package, a retuned exhaust with titanium tips, center lock wheels, and PASM sport suspension. A walnut shift knob is also included. Buyers can choose between coupe and cabriolet body styles.
The car is rear-wheel-drive only and will be exclusive to North America, with deliveries starting at the end of the year. The center lock wheels reduce unsprung mass by 17 pounds, helping the manual coupe weigh in at 3,327 pounds, just 11 pounds more than the Carrera T.
The Carrera S retains its twin-turbo 3.0L flat-six, producing 473 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, making it essentially the previous GTS in terms of performance. With the GTS now an automatic-only hybrid, the manual Carrera S becomes the most engaging analog option in the lineup.
The manual package adds $8,550 to the coupe's starting price, bringing it to $167,100. The cabriolet jumps nearly $11,000 to $181,000. By comparison, the manual 911 GTS started at $150,900 in 2024 with the manual as a no-cost option.
Porsche remains the only manufacturer making rear-engine sports cars with three pedals, and the added margin could help the company recover from a rough couple of years. For those seeking a cheaper route, the 388-hp manual Carrera T starts around $150,000 and can be tuned to S-level power thanks to its larger turbos.
