Pacifica Hybrid vs. Sienna: A $13K Depreciation Gap

Pacifica Hybrid vs. Sienna: A $13K Depreciation Gap

Minivans are making a comeback, and if you're eyeing one for the family, the plug-in hybrid Chrysler Pacifica has been discontinued after a small 2026 run, but leftover examples may still be on dealer lots. Its combustion-only sibling remains in production.

The Pacifica Hybrid was the only plug-in minivan ever sold in the U.S., with 82 MPGe combined and 32 miles of electric range. That beats the Toyota Sienna, a traditional hybrid that gets 36 mpg with no electric-only driving. But efficiency isn't everything.

Over the first five years of ownership, the Pacifica Hybrid is projected to lose $31,746 in value, according to Kelley Blue Book. The Sienna, by comparison, loses $18,628, a difference of more than $13,000. Total five-year ownership costs also favor Toyota: $63,483 for the Sienna versus $77,349 for the Pacifica.

The Sienna, now in its fourth generation (launched for 2021), is the only hybrid minivan still in production. 5-liter four-cylinder with two or three electric motors, producing 245 hp. 8. 3-inch optional).

Reliability records are clean for both 2026 models, though JD Power data shows conventional hybrids average 213 problems per 100 vehicles, while PHEVs average 281, the highest of any powertrain type. The Pacifica had one recall involving brake caliper bracket bolts.

Minivans are regaining popularity after years of being seen as uncool, with sales climbing. Current options include the gas-only Pacifica, the Honda Odyssey, and the Sienna. Automakers may add more models soon, and the Pacifica nameplate could return with electrification in the future.
