Nissan’s 2026 Armada Pro-4X Steps In Where Toyota Left Off

Nissan’s 2026 Armada Pro-4X Steps In Where Toyota Left Off

Nobody saw this coming. Nissan has quietly built the off-road SUV that Toyota fans have been missing. The 2026 Armada Pro-4X is a full-size, three-row, body-on-frame machine with a twin-turbo V6 and serious trail credentials. After a week behind the wheel, it’s clear Nissan delivered where Toyota stumbled.

The real winners here are off-road enthusiasts. Families? Maybe not so much.

The Armada is shorter than a Chevy Tahoe or Ford Expedition, and that’s a good thing. The upright profile, short overhangs, and high-mounted fog lights make it look ready for dirt. 3-inch screens sit under one pane of glass, but Nissan kept real buttons and knobs for the climate controls.

The second-row captain’s chairs tilt and slide without removing car seats, a feature the Tahoe lacks. But the third row is tight, and cargo space trails the bigger players. Worse, the fold-flat seat doesn’t actually sit flat, the floor slopes toward the rear, sending soccer balls rolling out the back.

5-liter twin-turbo V6 makes 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic. The Pro-4X comes standard with four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, locking rear differential, air suspension, and triple skid plates. It rides on 20-inch wheels wrapped in Yokohama all-terrain tires.

Around town, the Armada feels smaller than its rivals, making parking and tight maneuvers easy. 9 mpg. That’s on par with the competition.

At $81,675 as tested, the Pro-4X isn’t cheap, but it undercuts the outgoing Land Cruiser 200 Series. And since America never got the 300 Series outside of Lexus, this Nissan is about as close as you’ll get to a real Land Cruiser. It’s not for everyone, but for off-road enthusiasts, it fills a void nobody else is addressing.
