Nissan's $11,000 Tekton SUV: A Budget-Friendly Patrol Lookalike for Global Markets

Nissan's $11,000 Tekton SUV: A Budget-Friendly Patrol Lookalike for Global Markets

Nissan has officially unveiled the Tekton, a subcompact SUV built in India that will be exported to over 50 markets worldwide. The name, derived from Greek for “craftsman,” hints at its practical mission. But the Tekton’s real story is its striking resemblance to the Renault Duster, itself a reworked version of the Dacia Duster, sharing the same CMF-B platform and basic silhouette.

Nissan says the design takes cues from its full-size Patrol (sold as the Armada in North America), giving the little SUV a bold, upright stance. The reality? The front end gets a Patrol-inspired grille and vertical bumper intakes, while the profile and rear carry over most of the Duster’s shape, with unique LED taillights and 18-inch wheels as the main differentiators.

Inside, the Tekton borrows the Duster’s dashboard layout but spices things up with unusual color options. The top trim features white and purple upholstery with copper accents, a look that won’t be for everyone. 25-inch digital instrument cluster mounted side by side. Higher trims add a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a power tailgate, and ventilated seats.

Safety is covered with six airbags as standard, and upper trims get Level 2 driver-assistance features. The dimensions are class-competitive: 4,348 mm long, 2,657 mm wheelbase, 212 mm ground clearance, and 518 liters of cargo space.

Under the hood, the Tekton offers two turbocharged gasoline engines, both front-wheel drive only, no all-wheel drive or hybrid options here. 0-liter three-cylinder makes 100 horsepower, paired exclusively with a six-speed manual. 3-liter four-cylinder punches up to 161 horsepower and can be matched with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Pricing starts at an eye-popping $11,000 for the entry-level Visia trim and tops out at $19,500 for the fully loaded Tekna+. Developed at Nissan’s Chennai plant alongside the Renault Duster, the Tekton will target markets across the Middle East and Africa, competing locally with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
