Nissan. Toyota, and Lexus Issue Major Recalls Over Safety Defects

Three of the world’s largest automakers, Nissan. Toyota, and Lexus, have announced sweeping recalls affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles due to newly identified safety defects. The recalls, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), target specific model years from 2020 through 2024, with regulators warning that the issues could increase the risk of crashes or injury.

According to NHTSA filings. Toyota and Lexus are recalling approximately 280,000 vehicles, including the 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra, Sequoia, and Lexus LX 600, over a potential transmission issue. The problem involves a software glitch that may cause the vehicle to creep forward unexpectedly when in neutral, increasing the chance of a collision.

Separately, Nissan is recalling over 200,000 units of the 2020-2023 Rogue and 2021-2023 Rogue Sport due to a faulty hood latch that can fail to secure the hood, potentially allowing it to fly open while driving.

The affected VIN ranges have been published on the NHTSA website, and owners are urged to check their vehicle identification number for eligibility. Dealers will perform free repairs, including software updates and latch replacements, starting next month. Both automakers have stated they are not aware of any injuries linked to these defects, but advise owners to park outdoors until repairs are completed if a warning light appears.
