Nissan Recalls 3,900 Leaf EVs After Magazine Uncovers Child Seat Belt Issue

Nissan has issued a recall for nearly 4,000 of its 2026 Leaf electric vehicles following a safety alert from Consumer Reports. The magazine’s testers discovered that a rear seat belt buckle, the one used for a child’s car seat, could come unlatched during a crash. The flaw affects specific models built between late 2025 and early 2026, and Nissan is now notifying owners to bring their cars in for a free fix.

The problem centers on the center-rear seat position, which is commonly used for installing infant or child safety seats. Consumer Reports found that under certain impact conditions, the buckle could release, posing a serious risk to young passengers. Nissan says it’s aware of no injuries or accidents tied to the issue so far, but the company is acting proactively.

Dealers will inspect and, if needed, replace the affected seat belt assembly at no cost to owners.

For Boca Raton drivers who own a 2026 Leaf, this recall is a straightforward one. The repair takes about an hour, and Nissan’s customer service team can confirm if your vehicle is included by checking the VIN. Local dealerships, including those in the Boca area, are already stocking the replacement parts.

If you’ve got a little one riding in the back, it’s worth scheduling that appointment sooner than later, because when it comes to child safety, there’s no such thing as being too careful.
