Nissan Recalls 168,000 U.S. Vehicles Over Misprinted Weight Labels

Nissan is pulling roughly 168,000 vehicles off American roads after discovering that some of its models were shipped with incorrect weight rating labels. The labels, which are required by federal safety standards, may show a lower gross vehicle weight rating than the vehicle can actually handle, potentially leading drivers to overload their cars and risk tire failure or handling issues.
The recall affects certain 2022 through 2025 model year vehicles, including popular sedans, SUVs, and trucks.
The problem came to light during an internal review at Nissan, where engineers noticed discrepancies between the printed labels and the vehicle’s actual capacity. While no crashes or injuries have been reported related to the error, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been notified.
Nissan says dealers will replace the incorrect labels free of charge, and owners will also receive updated owner’s manuals if needed. The automaker plans to mail recall notices starting next month.
For local drivers, this recall underscores the importance of checking your vehicle’s weight rating, especially if you use your car for towing or hauling heavy loads. If you own a Nissan and haven’t received a recall notice yet, you can verify your vehicle’s status by visiting the NHTSA website or contacting your local dealer.
