Nissan Pulls Leaf EVs for Repairs Following Consumer Reports Safety Alert

Nissan has issued a recall for its Leaf electric vehicles after Consumer Reports flagged a concerning safety issue during routine testing. The automaker is calling back certain Leaf models to address a problem that could affect the car's steering control, putting drivers at risk.

The recall comes just weeks after the consumer advocacy group published findings that raised red flags about the vehicle's performance in emergency maneuvers.

According to Consumer Reports, testers noticed that the Leaf's steering wheel could unexpectedly lock up during sharp turns at low speeds, a situation that could lead to loss of control in parking lots or tight city streets. Nissan confirmed the issue stems from a software glitch in the electric power steering system.

The company says no accidents or injuries have been reported, but it is moving quickly to fix the problem before it leads to trouble on the road.

The recall affects roughly 12,000 Leaf models from the 2023 and 2024 model years in the United States. Nissan will notify owners starting next month and will update the steering software at no charge. For Boca Auto Care customers driving a Leaf, this means a quick trip to your local dealer can get the issue resolved.
