Nissan Australia Recalls 14,000 X-Trail SUVs Over Hybrid Software Glitch

Nissan Australia Recalls 14,000 X-Trail SUVs Over Hybrid Software Glitch

Nissan has issued a recall affecting close to 14,000 of its X-Trail e-Power models in Australia, citing a software problem with the hybrid system that could pose a safety risk. The recall covers vehicles sold between 2022 and 2024, and owners are being urged to act quickly.

According to the company, the issue lies in the hybrid control software, which may fail to properly manage the transition between the petrol engine and the electric motor. This glitch could cause the vehicle to unexpectedly lose drive power while on the road, increasing the likelihood of an accident.

No injuries or accidents have been reported so far, but Nissan is taking no chances.

Affected owners will be contacted directly by Nissan, who will arrange for a free software update at no cost. The fix is expected to take about an hour. In the meantime, drivers are advised to check the official Australian government recall website using their vehicle identification number (VIN) to see if their car is included.

The recall underscores the growing pains automakers face as they roll out increasingly complex hybrid and electric powertrains.
