Nissan and Infiniti Recall 168,000 SUVs Due to Mislabeled Weight Capacity

Nissan and Infiniti Recall 168,000 SUVs Due to Mislabeled Weight Capacity

Nissan and its luxury division Infiniti have issued a recall affecting roughly 168,000 SUVs after discovering that the vehicles’ weight rating labels are incorrect. The error, which applies to certain 2020-2024 models, could lead to unsafe driving conditions if owners load their SUVs beyond the actual safe capacity.

The recall was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and first reported by MotorTrend.

The problem centers on the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and payload information printed on the driver’s door jamb sticker. On affected vehicles, the listed numbers are higher than what the vehicle can safely handle. That means a driver who follows the sticker’s guidance could overload the SUV, risking tire failure, brake issues, or suspension damage.

No crashes or injuries have been reported so far, but Nissan is taking action to prevent potential problems.

Models included in the recall are the 2020-2024 Nissan Pathfinder, 2021-2024 Infiniti QX60, and 2020-2021 Nissan NV Cargo and Passenger vans. Dealers will replace the incorrect labels with corrected ones at no cost to owners. Notifications are expected to go out by mid-May. If you own one of these vehicles and are unsure about your SUV’s load limits, bring it by Boca Auto Care for a quick check or to verify if your VIN is part of the recall.
